Because it is one of the fundamental requisites of survival, energy plays a vital role in shaping nearly all facets ofthe social structure. The technical means for converting energy sources into useful and environmentally friendlyforms are pivotal components of the comprehensive energy role. Such topics are taught jointly by full-time facultyof the Industrial Engineering Department and the Sociology Department in an integrated liberal and professionalcourse. This paper discusses the course development process and assesses the potential successes and shortcomingsof the pedagogy. The uniqueness of the course, style, and structure are highlighted.
