Pyrolysis is an advisable technology for oil sludge treatment. The product characteristics were investigated based on pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. And the forming mechanisms were also explored. The products varying with temperature and other conditions experienced primary reaction and secondary reaction along with volatilization all over the process. Primary products were characterized as a large fraction of aliphatics with few aromatic compounds, whereas secondary products contained more aromatic compounds. And the heavier secondary reaction occurs, the more complex and much more aromatics are. The results are useful for determining the way of products utilization and optimizing the pyrolysis process.
