摘要

Drought is the natural phenomenon which the water scarcity occurred in the ground ecosystem of the specific regions, with periodic occurring climatic features. The efficient cause of the drought is little precipitation during long time period which can't meet water requirement of ground ecosystem. Drought is one of the most natural disasters to affect the society, economy and environment, and also a key restricting factor for agriculture production. In order to reduce the influence and loss by drought disaster and timely understand the occurrence, development of drought events using effective ways, it is necessary to conduct and develop the drought monitoring and forecasting research. At present, drought index method is adopted for the drought monitoring and forecasting research, usually including meteorological drought index, agricultural drought index, hydrological drought index and remote sensing drought index, etc. This paper mainly introduces the meteorological drought index and remote sensing drought index methods applied to calculate the drought index and monitor the drought events, and their application and validation of the drought monitoring in the Yellow River Basin.
