Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) which is to achieve the improvement of the safety and economical efficiency has been developed by Korea Hydro Nuclear Power (KHNP) with the support from industries and research institutes. All the main NSSS components for APR1400 have been designed to meet the performance requirements and the manufacturability of these components has been reviewed by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. (DOOSAN). The major design features of APR1400 are as follows. The Direct Vessel Injection (DVI) nozzles are adopted as an improvement of the Safety Injection System. 10% of tube plugging margin in heat transfer area is applied for the APR1400 steam generator, rather than 8% in Optimized Power Reactor 1000 (OPR1000) steam generator. In addition, the Upper Tube Bundle System is optimized in order to minimize the tube thinning caused by secondary flow between tube and its support. In order to obtain the advanced safety function, the four Pilot Operated Safety Relief Valves (POSRVs) in APR1400 pressurizer are adopted instead of three Pressurizer Safety Valves (PSVs) and two Safety Depressurization System Valves (SDSVs) used in the OPR1000. The Integrated Head Assembly (IHA) which is composed of the equipments in the reactor vessel head area causes to reduce the required time to refuel the power plant and to increase the operational efficiency of the power plant.
