In recent years the interest is growing to develop a drug delivery system with the use of a bioadhesive polymers that will attach to related tissue or to the surface coating of the tissue for targeting various absorptive mucosa such as occular, nasal, pulmonary, buccal etc. The present project is designed to deliver anti-asthmatic drugs by buccal route to overcome problems with aerosol route and oral route. As the drugs used in the treatment of pediatric patients of asthma are taken by aerosol route that will not give effective concentration in children as they cannot take flux properly. The drugs taken by oral route are less bio-available due to hepatic first pass metabolism. Salbutamol sulphate is a selective β_2 adrenergic agonist and widely used in treatment of asthma. Salbutamol sulphate have low oral bioavailability 50% and short half life 4-6 hours make it a suitable candidate for administration by the buccal route. The mucoadhesive buccal patch are prepared using different polymers and were evaluated for weight variation, thickness, tensile strength, percentage of elongation at break, folding endurance, swellability, surface pH, in-vitro residence time and Invitro drug release study.
