We investigated the use of nanoparticles composed of poly(Y-glutamic acid) hydrophobic derivatives (Y-hPGA) as vaccine adjuvants. Protein-encapsulated Y-hPGA nanoparticles could enhance the protein delivery to dendritic cells (DCs). These nanoparticles also had adjuvant activity for DC maturation. These results have important implications for protein-based vaccines consisting of self-assembled amphiphilic nanoparticles.
