A model based on Darcy’s Law for porous materials is developed for predictinggas permeability in composite laminates containing micro-cracks and delaminations.Gas permeability is presented as a function of crack density and crack intersectionarea. The damage evolution in multi-directional laminates is investigated using thestrain energy release rate concept. Then the intersection areas formed by crackopening displacements (COD) are computed using 3-D finite element modeling. Theprogressive gas permeability in a [0/60/90]_s laminate is predicted as an example.
