Treatment efficiency improvement ofexisting pulp and paper industrywastewater treatment plants withSuspended Carrier Biofilm Process(SCBP)

Suspended carrier biofilm process (SCBP) offers an efficient and economicalsolution to increase the efficiency of an existing wastewater treatment plant. SCBP combinesthe benefits of the traditional activated sludge and biofilm processes, while avoiding theirproblems. This paper describes the fundamentals of the SCBP. Also results of a pilot-scaleSCBP study as well as the operating experiences from some actual full scale treatment plantsare presented.
