A Zr2Fe model alloy system was used to investigate the role of amorphous structure on corrosion resistance. Metal spun ribbons were prepared in single phase form in both the amorphous and crystalline states, with their respective atomic structures confirmed using X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Electrochemical polarization measurements were carried out in 0.3wt% NaCl solution, pH=5.5, and active corrosion behavior were observed. The corrosion current density of the amorphous state was a factor of 13 lower, suggesting that the amorphous structure does provide a modest improvement in corrosion resistance.
