HEAT RELEASE MEASUREMENTS ON FRLSCABLES USING CONE CALORIMETER- CPRI's EXPERIENCE-

paper presents and discusses the heat release measurement data on power cables,data cables, wires and others like telephone and coaxial cables used for various applications inNuclear power plants, Hydro & Thermal Power plants, Petroleum Refineries, Metro rail,automobile industry etc. Special type of cables like fire survival cables have also been evaluatedand their performance discussed.The cables have been evaluated at various heat fluxes and their behaviour studied Individualcomponents of power cable have been evaluated at various irradiances. Besides the heat release some of the other parameters like heat of combustion total heat release, mass loss rate, specificexinction area of smoke, time to ignition rate of production of yields CO/CO2 ratios are alsoincluded in the study. The heat release measurements were useful in understanding the firebehaviour and evaluation of FRLS cables.
