2007 Hawaii Dam Inspections

The Kaloko Dam on the Island of Kauai was breached on March 14, 2006, following persistent heavy rains over more than a month, 500 million gallons of water was released down the Wailapa Stream. Eight people, including an unborn child, were killed by this flood. As a result of this disaster, the State of Hawaii requested emergency assistance from the Army Corps of Engineers to perform visual inspections of all earth dams inventoried for the entire State of Hawaii.
