UPSET VICTORIES IN NCAA DIVISION I-A COLLEGE FOOTBALL

摘要

This paper offers substantial evidence that a ranking system that minimizes the number of upsets does indeed over-fit the data. The upsets implied by various rankings are explicitly identified and the sets of upsets are compared and a consensus set of upsets is identified. Using this consensus set of upsets, a partial ranking of college football teams is determined.
