HUMMERSAT-1: A NEW SPACE MISSION WITH MICROSATELLITE AND NANOSATELLITE FOR TWIN-SATELLITE FORMATION FLYING TEST

As one of important departments of CAST (China Academy of Space Technology) with responsibility for small satellite and micro-satellite manufacture, DFH Satellite Co. Ltd. (DFHSat) is developing HummerSat-1 project: a new space mission with microsatellite and nanosatellite for formation flying test, after near ten small satellites flight heritage in DFHSat. HummerSat-1 is composed of a microsatellite (HummerSat-1, about 130kg) and a nanosatellite (HummerSat-1A, about 30kg), the former is the first satellite of CAST-mini bus which was presented on 57th IAC (IAC-06-B5.6.13, First Microsatellite and New Enhanced Small Satellite Series in DFH Satellite Co. Ltd.), and the latter is the first satellite of CAST-micro bus. This paper intends to introduce the overview of Hummer-1 project and describe capabilities and applications of two satellites. The two satellites would be fixed together and launched piggyback to orbit. They would be separated each other and fulfilled formation flying test. During the formation flying test, two satellites would be operated autonomously within about 2km relative distance according to information of relative positioning through differential GPS receiver both on two satellites.
