Construction claims are time consuming, and more often than not, divert valuable resources away from where they are needed most. A claim can be referred to the Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB), and if it fails there, it can further be referred to arbitration. This paper discusses the complex claims challenges facing a multiple contracting construction project. Two cases are being discussed, i.e., a claim resulting from a misunderstanding of the contract between the employer and the contracting parties, and the claims challenges posed by overhead costs resulting from a claim situation. Integration management becomes important in dealing with multiple contractors. This will help in coordinating the contractors, and also in making determinations on the progress of construction works. The other factor that leads to a high volume of claims is the misalignment of the contracting parties. Understanding the contract, and agreeing on the overhead cost calculation methodology for a claim, would help to resolve claims quickly and smoothly.
