CIGRE has established WG A3.22 'Technical requirements for substation equipment exceeding800kV' to review the state-of-the-art of technical specifications for substation equipment exceeding800kV within the scope of Study Committee A3 'High voltage equipment' in accordance with IEC SC17A request. WG A3.22 conducted the first surveys on technical specifications for substationequipment such as Gas Circuit Breaker (GCB), Disconnector Switch (DS), Earthing Switch (ES), andHigh Speed Grounding Switch (HSGS) and Metal Oxide Surge Arrester (MOSA) applied in 800kVand 1000kV networks The investigations include line surge impedance, first-pole-to-clear factor, DCtime constants and secondary arc extinction time. WG A3.22 will analyze the technical background ofall aspects of the available specifications with the intention of identifying and reporting the bestpractice for Ultra High Voltage (UHV) transmission system. The initial progress developed byinternational experts as well as the future tasks of the WG are described in the paper.
