An experimental study was conducted on the porous structure of the char particales of SM bituminous coal and XLT lignite by using nitrogen absorbtion method. The coal chars were produced under temperature ranging 450 °C~550 °C in moving-bed experiment equipment and the rapid pyrolysis with solid heat carrier. The specific surface area and distribution of pore diameter were derived by using BET and BJH methods. It is found that the pores in micro-size and meso-size are major contributors for the overall specific surface area. Furthermore, with the increasing of pyrolysis temperature, the specific area and average pore diameter vary in the shape of mountainand the temperature of peak is around 510 °C and 530 °C.
