Ultra-precision raster milling (UPRM) technology is different from other CNC machining processes such as ball-end milling and flat-end milling. Currently, there is limited research focused on this kind of manufacturing technology. This paper presents a model that describes the generating mechanism of feed-interval and path-interval scallop for freeform surfaces in the UPRM process. Machining parameters such as tool nose radius, swing radius and feed rate are taken into consideration. By comparing the simulation and experimental verification of the scallop generation in UPRM, the theoretical analysis of scallop generation mechanism is verified.
