Dow has developed a new family of thermoset polyester polyurethane polymers with enhanced hydrolysis resistance for the footwear industry. This result has been obtained by using proprietary building blocks in the backbone of the polyester polyol; the steric effect and a reduced hydrophilicity of the polymer chain protects ester bonds from water attacks. The resulting polyester polyurethane is hydrolysis resistant per itself and does not require additivation, offering advantages in terms of processing, reliability and durability in comparison with additives based technology. Tensile, tear and flex fatigue properties are retained longer and better than anti-hydrolytic containing polyester polyurethane. Solid and foamed polymer versions are available, to satisfy both mono and dual density applications. The foamed versions are fully water blown. VORALAST? polyurethane polymers produced by Dow fully accomplish the requirements of the top quality safety and casual market segment of the footwear industry.
