During storage of CO_2 in cold reservoir the formation of hydrate can assist in reducing the potential leakage of CO_2 from the storage reservoirs. But it can also alter the flow patterns and even reduce the natural spreading of the rising CO_2 plume throughout the reservoir. In this work we present two theoretical approaches for prediction of hydrate formation kinetics. Comparisons show that the two approaches compare well in terms of predicted kinetic rates and that the simpler Cellular Automata can be a feasible alternative to Phase Field Theory for implementation and use in tools for evaluation of hydrate consequences.
