The vertical stresses on the upstream face of the center piers reach values of 200 lb/in~2 tension with spikes up to 325 lb/in2 tension. These upstream stresses are greater for the center piers as compared to the outside piers. This is probably due to the orientation of the center piers with respect to the upstream-to-downstream energy direction and due to the location of maximum response of the dam. Vertical stresses on the downstream faces reach values of 200 lb/in~2 in tension.
