A parking space detection algorithm using an ultrasonic sensor has been developed. This enables automatic detection of the target parking position for a reverse parking assist system. This paper reports the background of development, the outline of the system, vehicle shape detection using an ultrasonic sensor, vehicle front shape detection, vehicle side shape detection, the actual vehicle operation status and includes a summary.
