Acetic acid lignin polyurethane (LPU) prepolymer was prepared by the reaction of acetic acid lignin, PEG, and TDI. Acetic acid lignin acted as polyols and reacted with TDI to produce a segmented copolyurethane as the same as PEG A new type of paperboard, named as paper-based acetic acid lignin polyurethane PLPU, was prepared by treating raw paperboard with (LPU) prepolymer. FTIR analysis of these new paperboards indicated that this treatment changed the hydrogen bond among cellulose to chemical bond. The mechanical properties and thermal properties of the PLPU were improved by this treatment. Acetic acid lignin content of PLPU affected the properties of the PLPU.
