A kind of dual polymeric strengthening systeM consisted of cationic polyelectrolyte polyamideamine epichlorohydrine (PAE) and anionic polyelectrolyte carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) was developed. The adsorption characteristics of PAE and CMC on pulp fibers were studied for improving their strengthening efficiency on sheet strength properties. The results showed that the pH of pulp slurry and the addition of simple electrolytes influenced the adsorption of PAe and CMC onto pulp fibers. The results of paper testing indicated that the treatment of fibers with PAE and CMC consecutively had better effects on sheet strength properties than that with PAE or CMC solely. The addition order of PAE and CMC in dual polymeric strengthening system could not influence paper strength properties distinctly.
