RESERVOIR CHARACTERIZATION AND OIL IN PLACE ESTIMATION FOR AYACUCHO AREA OF ORINOCO OIL BELT

The Orinoco Oil Belt which has long been known as the largest heavy hydrocarbon accumulation in the world, is divided into four major areas (Boyaca, Junin, Ayacucho, and Carabobo). Likewise, Ayacucho area has been sub-divided into seven blocks covering an area of 4,000Km<'2> bearing a considerable volume of reserves (9-11°AP1). Production tests, 2-D seismic surveys, cores, logs, fluids and PVT samples, comprise the information taken from 83 stratigraphic wells. However, the area is not yet thoroughly characterized. The development of Orinoco Oil Belt is a major goal for the Venezuelan Oil Industry. The characterization of Ayacucho area obtained through the integration of multiple disciplines will help to estimate Original Oil In Place (OOIP) and reserves. The results will lead to estimate the existing reserves to make future business decision and implement production plans to maximize the economic benefits of hydrocarbons in the area.
