This paper presents two measurement concepts that allow for the remote monitoring of important flowparameters in dense-phase conveying. With the optical measurement system, images of the flow areacquired and an image analysis is used to determine the sequence, length and velocity of slugs for agiven flow. The charge-based measurement system uses a fieldprobe to determine the electric fieldstrength caused by charged particles and provides information about the sequence and regularity of theconveyed material slugs. Both methods work non-invasively and remotely, and this allows for the flowmonitoring at pipelines where the access is either restricted or dangerous.
