摘要

This study consists in a preliminary petrographic and mineralogical characterization of coals, fly and bottom ashes from different power stations in southernmost Brazil (Presidente Medici at Candiota/ Rio Grande do Sul; Jorge Lacerda at Capivari de Baixo/ Santa Catarina; and COPEL at Figueira/ Parana) (Fig. 1). Samples comprise pulverized coal and fly and bottom ashes from the Rio Bonito Formation, Parana Basin. The methodology applied in these samples was maceral analyses, vitrinite reflectance (Ro %), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), with the aim to observe compositional differences and to determine the rank of the coals, as well as determine the mineral matter. The fly and bottom ashes were analyses in terms of types of unburnt organic matter and x-ray diffraction to determine mineral associations.
