The new photocatalysts based on commercially available titanium dioxide powders were prepared: Tytanpol A11 (Police,Poland), pure anatase, and P-25 (Degussa, Germany) containing 20% rutile by carbon doping via ethanol carbonization.Titanium dioxide was heated at different temperature from 150 to 400 °C for 1 hour in an atmosphere of ethanol vapour. Thephotocatalytic activity of carbon-doped TiO2 thus prepared was studied by oxidation of phenol in water under UV andartificial solar ligth irradiation. With the increase in carbon doping the photocatalytic activity under UV light decreased butwas stable under visible light. Turbidity of slurry solution decreased with increasing carbon doping for all catalysts probablybecause of change the surface character from hydrophilic to hydrophobic.
