A new approach for the measurement of transmission loss (TL) based on nearfield acousticalholography (NAH) is discussed in this paper. The panel excitation was a diffuse field generatedin the reverberation room of a TL facility with scanning microphone measurements made in theanechoic room close to the panel. This new approach measures the TL in narrow bands or 1/3octave bands from 50 to 1.6kHz, and is shown to be very accurate when compared withconventional TL measurements. This approach also provides the normal panel vibration so thatpanel modes can be uncovered and studied replacing the need for separate vibrometermeasurements.
