Elastomers Derived from Hydroxyl-Terminated Polybutadiene Prepolymers and Diamines

Krasol? resins are difunctional, hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene resins that can be used to prepare stable prepolymers. TDI prepolymers were cured with MCDEA to yield elastomers with very good mechanical properties and high softening temperature. They were also cured with Unilink? 4230 to yield soft polyurethane –polyurea products. The reaction was accelerated by a combination of DBTL and oleic acid. A Krasol resinbased prepolymer with MDI capping was successfully cured with several Unilink diamines yielding elastomers with good characteristics.. Among the diamine curing agents tested, none was suitable for hand-cast elastomers based on a Krasol prepolymer with MDI capping. The compositions suffered from either too fast a curing reaction or very low softening temperature. However, mix-meter equipment allowed the processing of these fast-cured polyurethane-polyurea materials.
