This paper presents long-term follow-up results from post-fractureand post-refracture deliverability testing for 56 gasstorage wells. The wells studied include 32 injection/withdraw(IW) wells hydraulically fractured with surface modificationagent (SMA) applied to the proppant and 24 IW wellshydraulically fractured without SMA applied to the proppantfor sand flowback control.Deliverability sustainability results previously presented 1will be updated for these treatments from a 6- to a 9-yearperiod. The results will include analysis from deliverabilitydata for SMA-treated and non-SMA-treated wells over six tonine IW cycles. Three wells of the original group of 24 wellspreviously fractured without SMA were refractured usingSMA.In the original study, a number of wells were fracturedwithout using SMA proppant. These earlier stimulationtreatment wells suffered some operational problems and theneed for proppant flowback control became apparent. Theaddition of SMA to fracture treatments reduced operationalproblems related to produced sand and fracture treatmentsimproved deliverability. The wells that included a SMA nowhave been through six to seven complete pressure cycles andthe long-term effects of sand flowback and well performancecan be compared.The results of this updated study show that SMA injectedwith the proppant helps reduce operational problems in gasstorage fields by reducing proppant flowback. In addition,analysis of SMA fractruring treatments in gas storage wellstypically show no detriment to long-term performance. Inaddition, SMA can improve results from refracturing.
