New copolymers of 1-vinylpyrrolidin-2-one (VP)containing units carboxylated on the lactam ringwere prepared by copolymerization with 3,3’-di-(ethoxycarbonyl)-1-vinylpyrrolidin-2-one (DEVP) andsubsequent saponification of the ester groupsfollowed by partial decarboxylation. The reactivityratios of DEVP and VP were determined. Theirvalues allowed controlling both density andsequences of the functional units. Disulphidespacers amenable to reductive exchange andcleavage reactions were introduced, and conjugateswith model bioactive molecules, for instance Lglutathione,were prepared.
