摘要

Industrial gear oils are used extensively in nearly all-major branches of manufacturing andprocessing industries. Gear lubrication oil is a machine compound of particular significance fortransmission operation. Base oil type, viscosity, additive type and content have a strong influenceon typical gear failures. During operation, the lubricant comes into contact with most of othermachine elements of transmission operation. Present studies were carried out onpolyalphaolefins based gear oil vis-à-vis mineral oil based EP gear oil developed by incorporatinga new gear oil additive package and esters. Oxidation and thermal stability of oil is particularlyimportant in gear oils that circulate for extended period of time at high temperatures.Experimental data revealed that synthetic gear oil have better resistance to aging and hightemperature and gives a longer service life. Mineral oil based EP gear oil in presence of saturatedvegetable ester display improvement in gear efficiency in terms of reduced wear and scuffing,thus gives maximum gear protection.
