A SURVEY OF AUDIO FORENSIC GUNSHOT INVESTIGATIONS

Audio recordings of gunshots may be used with other forensic evidence to identify or eliminate gunshot sourcelocations, to establish certain attributes of the weapon fired, and/or elucidate or eliminate certain physical parameters ofthe gunshot surroundings. Under very controlled circumstances audio recordings have been able to identify oreliminate the type of weapon fired. This paper presents a general overview of the gunshot acoustics and reviews threecases involving gunshot acoustics.
