MULTIHOLDER FOR AN ARC-JET FACILITY

In CIRA, Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali is operative an arc-jet Plasma Wind Tunnel facilityfor atmospheric re-entry tests of very high power, 70 MW, named Scirocco. The flow jet useful forthe test is very large reaching a diameter of about 2 m. In this frame the possibility to carry out testson numerous test articles in a unique run has been investigated. In this way it will be possibleguarantee the same test conditions for each test sample and reduce the number of the tests forcampaign and, finally, the costs. In this paper a “multiholder” concept, to contemporaneously test inScirocco seven articles, is presented with the discussion of the most important concerns for thedesign and realisation.
