The aim of the PVACCEPT project was the design and development of innovative modules based on existingtechnologies, which should be suitable for application especially on old buildings, even on monuments, and in protected park areas. The design and development work concentrated on the following aspects: surface structure, colour, transparency, multi-functional performance. PVACCEPT developed "technological answers to architectural demands" inthe form of prototypes and test modules. The more advanced and most innovative concepts were applied in demonstrationobjects In Italy and Germany, e. g. screen-printed modules and self-lighted curved modules ("solar flags") with solar cells embedded in acrylic. The majority of demonstration sites is under monument protection and required sensitive and inconspicuous aesthetic integration. The installations have successfully passed the technical test phase, and also the results of the life cycle assessment are encouraging. The evaluation of their acceptability showed a high level of acceptance on side of population as well as experts and confirmed the main thesis, from which the project started: design matters!
