Homogeneous solid-solution oxalates of Ni2+ and Co2+ ions were synthesized by modifiedcoprecipitation method and the composition and morphology of the fibrous solid-solutionoxalates precursor were characterized by XRD, IR, DTA/TG and SEM analysis. The effects offeeding methods, pH values, precipitation temperature, reactant concentration, additionsurfactant, alcohol washing and drying process on the morphology and dispersion of theprecursor were investigated in detail. The experimental results showed that the coprecipitatedpowders have characteristics that are different from those of the mechanical mixtures with thesame stoichiometry. Based on the observations of precursors growth and SEM morphology ofthe precursor, the oriented attachment was proposed for the well-aligned growth of the fibrousNi-Co alloy precursor particles.
