The unreliability of casing plungers has diminished theirappeal as an effective solution for removing accumulated wellbore fluids that severely curtail production in marginal stripperwells. For decades, the primary cause of failure points to thesealing cup design and the adverse reactions of cup material towell bore conditions. A new cup design and mechanicalinnovations restore the appeal of casing plungers as a reliabletool to increase production in a broad range of marginal wellconditions. Production increases, extended cup life, andreduced operating expenses have been achieved.
