The paper summarizes the current progress in the development of methods of analysis for steelframes with semi-rigid joints. Three groups of methods of analysis are presented in details. The first one consistsof simplified second order plastic-hinge methods for calculations of member internal forces in inelastic semicontinuousframes subjected to moderate sway deformations. Methods of this group use a set of notional loadsin the first order plastic-hinge analysis. The second group of methods presented in the paper refers to generalsecond order methods of analysis. These methods are based on a two surface degradation model or on a springin-series model. Finally, more general methods for advanced analysis and design are presented. They are basedon second order refined plastic-hinge methods that allow for the combined effects of joint stiffness degradationand distributed plasticity along the member length as well as across the member sections.An illustrative exampleis presented. Conclusions regarding methods of analysis used currently in design of sway frames and regardingtheir future developments are drawn.
