University of Tokyo's Nano-satellite CUBESAT-XI and ItsOn-orbit Experiment Results

A students' satellite CUBESAT "XI-IV" waslaunched on June 30th, 2003 from PlesetskCosmodrome, Russia using Russian RocketROCKOT. XI-IV is 1kg, 10cm cubic satellitedeveloped by a student team of the University ofTokyo ISSL (Intelligent Space SystemsLaboratory). And until now, XI-IV has beenoperating in good condition. This paper firstdescribes the concept of XI-IV and its educationalsignificance, and shows the subsystems of XI-IV.Then on-orbit experiment of XI-IV is describedwith the focus on orbit determination, estimationof the attitude motion, and Earth imaging mission.
