Agricultural mechanization in Sudan is implemented in small-scale rain-fed farms; largescale rain-fed farms and irrigated schemes with different levels. Hand tools and animal power aredominant in the traditional small-scale rain-fed system. An improved animal-drawn plough-seederwas introduced in this system to solve the problem of timeliness related to hand tools. Mechanicalpower and sophisticated implements were commonly used in large scales rain-fed mechanized andirrigated schemes, in which tractors of power range 57 kW to 186 kW are used, in addition to otherfarm equipments such as plows, seeding and harvesting machines. The country benefits from windand solar energy in rural areas, to solve the problems of a lack of availability of electricity andpetroleum fuel for irrigation pumps, numbers of wind and photovoltaic pumps were installed indifferent locations in the country. Land fragmentation, poor infrastructure, lack of maintenance andenergy, poor management systems of agricultural schemes are the main problems facing theagricultural mechanization development in Sudan.
