Supply chain management is becoming more and more important as the global economycontinues to force competition. Companies are being forced to lower costs and become morecreative in process management due to this competitive spirit in the chain. This competitiveenvironment makes it difficult for supply chain managers to determine how to invest for processimprovement. This is especially true if the managers believe there are trade-offs betweeninvestments, especially when environmental issues are involved. In this paper the authors studyhow environmental investments and buyer/supplier relationships influence plant performance, indifferent competitive settings.
