The differences between the estimated yield of a Photovoltaic grid-connected system (PVGCS) givenby generic software tools used by PV companies and its actual performances make on-site PV characterizationmethods an essential tool to bring credit to PV markets. This paper proposes a new on-site method based on simpleequipment and reduced measurement time, especially suitable for small and middle-sized PV businesses. The method consists of two different tests from which the main characteristics of PV-generator and inverter (namely installed power at standard test conditions, inverter conversion efficiency, maximum power point tracking and harmonic distortion) can be obtained. The method results obtained for two PVGCS located in Madrid are shown.
