This project aims to demonstrate a sustainable and low-energy sports centre and the possibility ofintegrating solar energy into this type of building. The design is based on the idea of integrating environmentaltechnological aspects, such as using solar energy, into the building in such a way that they help create a specialatmosphere. The central area (‘the Plaza’) is an unheated outdoor area. Integrating PV modules into the glass roof of the Plaza prevents overheating in summer as well as providing shade and diffuse light. An office tower is also part of the bioclimatic system of the building. The glass roof, stretching up to 24 metres, covers a climbing wall and also acts as a solar chimney. A wind vent cowl creates under-pressure in the corridor space. A heat pump recovers heat from the warm airflow to produce hot water for the showers. The architectural expression is extremely relevant.
