Only the combination of very high solar cell efficiencies with simple, time and energy saving processing including cost effective materials is a promising way to make PV solar electricity more competitive. In this paper, advances of two novel high efficiency silicon solar cell structures based on the Obliquely Evaporated Contact (OECO) technology are reported. Photolithography, masks and alignment are excluded. With the standard OECO cell efficiencies on Ga-doped Cz-Si up to 20.1% (100 cm2) could be obtained, whereas with the backcontactedand bifacial BACK OECO solar cell an efficiency of 19.2% and 16% - 17.4% was achieved for front andback illumination, respectively. There is a high potential for reaching efficiencies above 20% for both sides. Highefficiency and low cost production features of both cell types and future perspectives are discussed.
