Risk Management Process for Ultra-deepwater Surface BOP Operations from a DPDrilling Rig

This paper describes the risk management process that wasundertaken for the first surface BOP operation to be executedfrom a Dynamically Positioned drilling vessel in ultradeepwater (9474 ft WD). The paper briefly describes the casefor change that presented itself to the operations drilling groupand outlines the steps that were taken in order to ensure thatthe overall safety of the operation was equal to, or superior to,that of conventional subsea operations. A number of the keyconclusions established from the risk management process arealso presented.
