This paper analyzes self-contention avoidance in Optical Burst Switching (OBS) network and the inequality constraints for self-contention avoidance are obtained. Based on the analysis, this paper presents a simple self-contention avoidance scheme, which is implemented at edge nodes and at the first-hop core node being straightly connected with the ingress. In this case, the self-contention avoidance scheme aims to avoid contention between data bursts from the same edge node and to the same out port at the first-hop core node. Theoretic analysis and simulation results show that the proposed scheme can completely avoid the blocking of data burst at the first-hop core node with efficient link utilization.
