Concrete filled steel tubes offer so many benefits as the compressed columns in structures compared with reinforced concrete columns that they get broader usage in civil engineering recently. As a new composite column, with even more competitive properties, the concrete filled CFRP-steel tube is introduced in this paper. For the study of its mechanical behavior, an experimental investigation is developed on 15 specimens of this kind and the test results are discussed in detail. It is found that CFRP puts off the yield point of the steel tube and enhances effectively the compressive load carrying capacity of the column. The experimental results suggest that the proposed new column is an ideal compression carrying part in the structure with multiple advantages such as the relatively small cross section area versus the increasing ultimate loading.
