Pulsed field magnetization characteristics of bulksuperconductors embedded into a rotor of anelectric rotating machine
An electric rotating machine using bulk superconductors in a rotor is expectedto have high energy density and high effciency. Among several configurationsand operational principles of it we have focused on a rotating machine using bulksuperconductors as a trapped-field rotor, because bulk superconductors can trap a highmagnetic field even at the temperature of liquid nitrogen. One of the most practicaland expected magnetization techniques of a bulk superconducting rotor is pulsedfield magnetization using armature windings. The distribution and the amplitudeof magnetic fields for magnetization were calculated in three configurations of two-polearmature windings by the finite element method with electromagnetic and thermalcharacteristics of bulk superconductors taken into account.
