A designed experiment was performed, which varied several major factors in rubber-metal bonding, including substrate preparation, use of primers, different adhesives, and different natural rubber compounds. The test properties were original bond strength, bond hot tear strength, and bond resistance to aggressive environmental attack. The contrasts in the different test properties made possible analysis and understanding of how the different experimental factors affect bond strength and durability.
