In order to analyse the strengthening behaviour of partially crystallised amorphous alloys with quasicrystalline precipitate phases, a phase mixture model is presented. In the model, partially crystallised amorphous alloys are regarded as composites of nanoscale quasicrystalline particles and remaining amorphous matrices; solute concentrations of the remaining matrices change with volume fraction of quasicrystalline precipitate particles depending on modes of precipitation. Investigating the solute concentration changes associated with overall mechanical properties in polymorphous mode and diffusion-controlled mode precipitation processes could prove that the phase mixture model can adequately describe the strengthening mechanism of the devitrified Zr-based amorphous quasicrystalline nanocomposites.
